Expressive UHD 4K Video Capture

The FX3A features a 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor (10.2MP effective for video) coupled with a BIONZ XR processor, enabling UHD 4K recording with internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling or 16-bit raw output. The sensor’s back-illuminated design enhances sensitivity and detail, supporting an expandable ISO range from 80 to 409,600 and delivering over 15 stops of dynamic range to handle complex lighting scenarios. S-Cinetone mode facilitates seamless color matching with VENICE, FX9, or FX6 cameras, complemented by S-Log3/2 and 10-bit HLG support for efficient HDR workflows. Additionally, the sensor and processor significantly minimize rolling shutter effects while integrating a Fast Hybrid AF system for precise, responsive autofocus and subject tracking.

4K Full-Frame CMOS Exmor R Sensor

A 12.1MP Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR processor offer the FX3A true cinematic expression with 10.2MP effective video and 12.1MP still capture. The full-frame sensor provides shallow depth of field looks, impressive bokeh, and reduced rolling shutter artifacts. A base sensitivity of 80-102,400 expands to a lofty 409,600 for impressive low-light capture, and 15+ stops of dynamic range reproduce the nuances of both spectacular exteriors and carefully lit interior scenes with plenty of allowance for color grading.

S-Cinetone Color

Beautiful skin tone reproduction and a softer-toned look that complements your VENICE, FX9, or FX6 footage are created using the FX3A's default S-Cinetone color setting. S-Log-3, S-Gamut3, S-Gamut3.Cine, and 10-bit 4:2:2 support help maintain rich gradation and color matching with the range of Sony Cinema Line cameras, while HLG HDR provides the option of direct HLG playback without the need for grading.

Video Recording

Achieve crisp, high-resolution footage at up to 4K 120p, allowing for smooth 5x slow-motion playback at 24p. The FX3A supports outputting DCI 4K+ 16-bit raw via HDMI to compatible external recorders, while simultaneously recording XAVC 4K and proxy files internally. Onboard 4K recording offers 10-bit 4:2:2 color with both All-Intra and Long GOP codecs. Its advanced cooling system, featuring a silent fan and heatsink, ensures continuous recording up to 4K60 without overheating. Dual SD card slots accommodate CFexpress Type A and SDXC cards for seamless relay or backup recording. Additionally, it delivers Super 35 1080p capture at frame rates as high as 240p.

Steady Focus

Solo shooters can maintain precise focus effortlessly with the FX3A’s AI-driven real-time Tracking and Eye autofocus capabilities, complemented by an intuitive touchscreen focusing interface. The camera offers seven AF Transition Speed options for smooth focus pulls and five AF Subject Shift settings to fine-tune speed when changing focus between subjects. Its Fast Hybrid AF system utilizes 627 points to cover roughly 89% of the frame, ensuring comprehensive and reliable autofocus performance.

Ergonomic Form for Solo Operation

The FX3A's cage-free design enables you to mount ¼"-20 compatible accessories directly on the camera or the detachable handle, saving you the weight and setup/breakdown time of a camera cage. The clustered record button, focus and menu controls, and six assignable buttons all help to enable single-handed control, leaving your left hand free for balancing or controlling your lens.

Tilting Touchscreen LCD

The fold-out 3" touchscreen LCD has a crisp 2.35MP resolution and can be variously angled for optimal viewing.

Easily Viewable Tally Lights

Professional audio capabilities feature a detachable XLR adapter handle equipped with two XLR-1/4" TRS combo inputs, a microphone holder, and a 3.5mm input for external mics, supporting up to 4-channel, 24-bit audio recording.

The camera supports dual-band wireless connectivity at 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies and offers a wired LAN connection via the USB-C port using an additional adapter.
