Its 26MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processor provide excellent performance, including an impressive 14+ stops of dynamic range and Dual Base ISO architecture for low-light settings. Perfect for filmmakers of any level, this camera offers a cinematic imaging pipeline and user-friendly operation.

Advanced Capture Options

The Sony FX30 offers exceptional sensitivity with ISO settings reaching up to 32000 and features Dual Base ISO at 800 and 2500. Utilizing S-Log3, it delivers over 14 stops of dynamic range. It supports 10-bit 4:2:2 recording in advanced XAVC HS and XAVC S-I codecs. The full pixel readout from its 6K sensor produces superior UHD 4K video at up to 60 fps. High-speed capture is available at 120 fps in 4K with a 1.6x crop and up to 240 fps in Full HD. Additionally, the HDMI output provides 16-bit raw video for compatible external recorders.

Professional Picture Control

S-Cinetone replicates the color science found in Sony’s high-end cinema cameras, including the VENICE series, delivering natural mid-tones, gentle color rendering, and smooth highlight transitions. Picture Profiles like S-Log3 and HLG offer extended dynamic range and enhanced post-production flexibility. Built-in Creative Looks can be embedded in-camera to establish a desired mood during shooting, reducing post-processing needs. The camera allows the creation of up to 16 LUTs and 3 presets for precise monitoring and previewing, which can be applied to the viewfinder, monitor, or HDMI output.

Operation for All Levels

The flexible ISO system offers straightforward operation through standard ISO settings while maximizing adaptability. Cine EI mode captures the widest dynamic range by recording at a chosen base ISO and modifying metadata for accurate monitoring and post-production adjustments. Cine EI Quick mode simplifies workflow by automatically toggling between the two base ISO settings, balancing ease of use with exceptional image quality.

5-Axis In-Body Image Stabilization

Sony's FX30 has a 5-axis in-body image stabilization system for smooth footage even while handheld. The Active Mode combines optical and digital systems, and gyro movement can be recorded for post-production use.

Fast Hybrid AF

Experience high-speed, precise autofocus in all modes, including 4K up to 120 fps, with the advanced 495-point Fast Hybrid AF system and Real-time Eye AF and Tracking for people and animals. AF Assist automatically switches to manual focus with the lens' focus ring, while Focus Map visualizes focus areas in your scene.

Comprehensive Feature Set

Breathing compensation is supported with certain lenses when shooting 4K up to 60p in-camera or up to 120p during post-production using Catalyst software. The camera offers timecode synchronization via an optional VMC-BNCM1 Timecode Adapter Cable. Additionally, tally lights provide a clear visual indication when the camera is recording.

Media Options

The FX30 camera has dual CFexpress Type A/SD card slots for recording high-bitrate footage at high frame rates. Users can choose between the two types of media depending on the situation. CFexpress Type A has ultra-fast speeds, while SD cards offer high capacities and are more commonly used.

Catalyst Browse and Prepare Integration

The camera features embedded LUT and Exposure Index (EI) metadata for accurate color grading. Gyro and lens stabilization data help minimize camera shake. Breathing compensation offers manual control and fine-tuning. Rotation metadata ensures footage orientation is preserved correctly. Additionally, shot marks can be applied to clips either during or after recording for easy reference.

Ergonomic Form for Solo Operation

The lightweight body weighs only 544g and features a dedicated zoom rocker for precise control. Its button layout is fully customizable to suit individual workflows. Five 1/4"-20 threaded mounting points provide versatile options for attaching accessories, while the Multi Interface Shoe supports a range of advanced add-ons. An active cooling fan enables continuous shooting during long sessions. Designed to complement the FX3, the FX30 is compatible with many of the same accessories, including cages, without needing any modifications.

A Plethora of Connectivity Options

The full-size HDMI output delivers clean signals up to 4K at 60p along with 16-bit raw video support. The camera includes onboard audio connectivity with a 3.5mm headphone jack and a 3.5mm microphone input. A USB-C port enables high-speed data transfer and powers the camera. The Multi-Terminal (Micro-USB) interface accommodates various accessories, including remote controls, to enhance functionality. Timecode synchronization is achievable using the optional VMC-BNCM1 Timecode Adapter Cable. The Multi Interface Shoe supports advanced accessories such as the included XLR Handle Unit.
