It combines a wide field of view with the precision required for detailed macro work, making it equally adept for general photography and capturing subjects with increased depth of field. This lens serves a dual purpose, functioning as both a specialized macro tool and an adaptable prime suitable for portraits and more distant subjects.

1:1 Macro and Focusing Control

Designed for true macro photography, the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro Lens delivers a life-size 1:1 magnification ratio and a minimum focusing distance of 16cm, ideal for detailed close-up work. The lens includes a focusing distance and magnification scale on its top for precise technical use. Additionally, it features a focus range limiter switch to restrict focusing between 16-30cm, 30cm to infinity, or the full range, along with a focus hold button that allows manual locking of autofocus at a chosen position.

Optics and Physical Design

The lens incorporates one extra-low dispersion element to minimize chromatic aberrations and color fringing, enhancing image clarity and maintaining color accuracy. An aspherical element is also included to correct astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations. Its rounded seven-blade diaphragm produces smooth bokeh when using selective focus. The f/2.8 maximum aperture supports shooting in available light and helps maintain a compact, lightweight form factor—measuring 71mm in length and weighing approximately 227g. A dust- and moisture-resistant construction allows reliable use in challenging environments, while rubberized control rings improve handling in colder conditions.
