The Sony FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS II delivers versatile everyday shooting in a remarkably compact package. This full-frame standard zoom spans wide-angle to portrait focal lengths, making it ideal for travel, events, and general photography. Enhanced autofocus enables confident high-speed shooting, while optical image stabilization and weather-resistant construction ensure reliable performance in varied conditions. The efficient optical design maintains the lens's lightweight, portable character—perfect for photographers seeking flexibility without bulk.

Upgraded Autofocus

  • The key upgrades in Version II of this lens relate to autofocus, including a focusing system that now supports AF-C while continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to 120 fps. This is ideal for the fastest burst shooting and high-speed/slow-motion video recording.
  • For more dynamic focus and zoom pulls, this lens also now supports AF tracking while zooming.
  • An internal focus mechanism and linear motor contribute to faster, more responsive performance and easier handling.

Image Stabilization and Design

  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds. This stabilization system can be combined with select camera's sensor-shift type image stabilization for more effective control of camera blur.
  • Dust- and moisture-sealed design better permits working in inclement conditions and rubberized control rings benefit handling in colder temperatures.

Optical Design

  • One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
  • Three aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
  • Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
