Improved Processing Engine

Enhanced BIONZ XR processing engine for improved speed, image quality, and handling of AI tasks and intelligent AF. Reduces motion distortions and has a higher processing performance compared to previous generations.

Image Stabilization

The camera's pixel-level 5-axis optical image stabilization system offers seven stops of shake compensation to counter five types of camera shake during handheld shooting. It is optimized for precise detection and control down to a single pixel and improved communication between body and lens. This allows for sharp imaging with any lens, including adapted ones.

AI Processing Unit

  • Human, which tracks body and head positions for accurate portraits. Real-time Eye AF performance has also been improved by 60% thanks to the human pose estimation capabilities.

Advanced Fast Hybrid AF
  • 693-pt Fast Hybrid AF system for accurate focus in all lighting conditions. Covers 79% of FF image area or 100% of cropped APS-C. Available in all modes for photo and video.
  • Full-time DMF (Direct Manual Focus) enables using the lens's focus ring for manual focus control at any time, making it easier to switch focus to a different subject even when working with AF.
  • Capture fast-moving subjects with ease. AF system keeps up with 10 fps continuous shooting and offers full-time AF tracking between each frame.
  • In-camera bracketing allows for up to 299 shifted focus points, allowing for composite images with deeper depth of field in post-production.
AF During Video Recording

Video Recording

  • Capture high-quality 4K video using the advanced XAVC S-I format up to 600 Mb/s, with 16-bit raw output available for external recording through HDMI.
  • If using a Super 35 crop, full pixel readout recording is possible at up to UHD 4K at frame rates up to 30p or 6.2K oversampling can be used for greater sharpness and detail.
  • Raw output is supported at up to 4K 60p and simultaneous internal 4K recording is possible, too.
  • If recording in Full HD, high-speed, 120 fps recording enables 4x and 5x slow-motion movie recording with the frame rate playback set to either 30p or 24p.
