The lens design includes multiple low dispersion and aspherical elements to minimize chromatic and spherical aberrations. With the addition of a ZERO coating and a Z Coating Nano, lens flare and ghosting are significantly reduced to enhance contrast.

The lens contains an optical image stabilization system that works in conjunction with select cameras' 5-axis image stabilization to provide up to 6.5 stops of camera shake compensation. A high-speed imager AF system, known as Movie & Still Compatible (MSC), offers fast and accurate focusing for both photo and video use. The manual focus clutch allows for quick switching to manual focus for more precise control. This lens also includes a function button for direct settings adjustment, and its weather-sealed construction makes it suitable for use in tough environmental conditions.
