The Nikon Z8 is a compact and lightweight camera that incorporates flagship technology in a more portable form. It features the proven sensor, processing, and AF capabilities of the Z9, making it ideal for a variety of uses. The camera utilizes a 45.7MP BSI stacked CMOS sensor for impressive resolution, fast readout speeds, and minimal noise for both photography and 8K video recording.
EXPEED 7 Image Processor
EXPEED 7 engine + sensor = higher speeds, impressive AF, burst shooting, large buffer, fluid video, quick handling. Max speeds: 20 fps (raw), 30 fps (JPEG), 60 fps (DX area), 120 fps (11MP stills) w/ full AF/AE. Buffer can store 1000+ raw images. Pre-Release Capture for decisive shots. Elec. shutter up to 1/32,000 sec with less distortions. AF at 120 fps for fast shooting. HEIF offers more colors + smaller file size. Motion Blend Retouch for composites + live timer and dimmable viewfinder in Long Exposure display.
Electronic Shutter-Only Design
The Z8 mirrorless camera has a stacked sensor design with an electronic shutter, offering up to 1/32,000 sec recording and minimal motion distortion. It also supports flash sync and high speed sync functions without a mechanical shutter.
493-Point Phase-Detection AF
The Z8 camera features a 493-point phase-detection AF system for quick and accurate focusing, including a Starlight mode for low-light shooting and a Backlit AF for difficult lighting conditions. It also offers 3D Tracking AF for fast-moving subjects and three Dynamic-Area AF modes.
Subject Detection with Deep Learning Technology
The Z8 uses advanced algorithms and deep learning from the Z9 to recognize various subjects, including humans, animals, airplanes, and bicycles. It automatically detects and tracks subjects in Auto-Area AF for sharp focus, with improved Eye-Detection AF for pinpoint accuracy on small or large eyes. It can also be combined with custom Wide-Area AF for different subject sizes and shapes.
Internal 8K60 and 4K 120 Recording
The Z8 offers excellent video capabilities, matching the Z9 with a range of resolutions and frame rates up to 8K. Full pixel readout enables continuous shooting for up to 2 hours and 5 minutes, while 8K area oversampling allows for increased sharpness and high-resolution frame grabs from 8K and 4K videos.
12-Bit N-RAW and ProRes RAW Video
Internal 12-bit raw recording with up to 8.3K 60p in N-RAW format. Record in N-RAW for smaller files and MP4 proxy creation. ProRes RAW recording also available up to 4.1K and 60p.
ProRes and H.265 10-Bit Recording
Internal recording is also supported with 10-bit color and 4:2:2 sampling in the ProRes 422 HQ and H.265 codecs, and H.264 and 4:2:0 color can be used depending on workflow needs. For more latitude when color grading in post, there is also a 10-bit N-Log setting as well as a Flat color profile. Additionally, HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) can be used for creating HDR-ready content straight from the camera.
Recording Support
Enhance recordings with Z8's useful tools and functions: Red REC frame indicator, top control panel displays recording settings, focus peaking, zebra stripes, waveform monitor, fine ISO control, fast AF-ON function, slow shutter speed video, timecode linking, and 24-bit sound recording. Optional Tascam CA-XLR2d-AN adapter for external XLR microphones.
Sleek, Modular, and Durable Construction
The Z8 is the successor to the D850 DSLR and smaller than the flagship Z9. It features a modular design and can be used with the optional MB-N12 Power Battery Pack grip for better ergonomics and battery life. The camera has dual card slots for flexible file saving and is built using eco-friendly materials. It also has premium weather sealing and offers 6 stops of camera shake compensation.
Real-Live Viewfinder
Real-Live Viewfinder is an advanced EVF utilizing a 3.69m-dot OLED panel with adjustable luminance up to 3000 cd/m2 for clear visibility in bright conditions. This EVF also works in conjunction with dual-stream technology for blackout-free viewing when shooting continuously and it features a high fps function, which ups the EVF's refresh rate to 120 fps for smoother, lifelike viewing.
Four-Axis Tilting LCD
Like the Z9, the Z8 incorporates a unique 3.2" 2.1m-dot four-axis tilting touchscreen LCD that better supports working from high and low angles, regardless if shooting in the horizontal or vertical orientation. This screen's four-way tilting design allows for easier viewing from a variety of positions and the user interface orientation will also shift depending on how the camera is held.
Versatile Connectivity
The Z8 has multiple connectivity options, including HDMI, headphone, microphone, USB-C, and 10-pin ports for video output, audio monitoring, file transfers, power delivery, and remote connectivity. It also supports USB-LAN connectivity and wireless file transferring and camera control through Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
