Nikon's First FX Power Zoom

This Nikon lens marks the brand’s inaugural FX-format power zoom model and is the first NIKKOR Z lens equipped with a zoom lever, providing videographers with fluid zoom control and up to eleven selectable zoom speeds. The power zoom feature ensures consistent, smooth zooming and offers versatile zoom operation options, including remote control via computer, smartphone, or tablet using NX Tether software alongside SnapBridge or NX Field apps. Additionally, remote zoom control is supported through the optional MC-N10 video grip.

Hi-Res Zoom Compatibility

Paired with the Nikon Z9 or Z8, the lens enables Hi-Res Zoom, delivering an effective angle of view comparable to a 270mm focal length while capturing 4K video footage.

Extensive Image Quality Control

The NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ features a stepping motor (STM) that provides fast and silent autofocus, making it ideal for dynamic, documentary-style shooting. Its linear focus support enables precise control over the rotation of the focus or control ring for exact focus adjustments. Focus breathing is minimized to preserve the angle of view and composition during significant focus shifts. The large, ergonomic focus ring facilitates accurate manual focusing, while the textured focus and zoom rings are fully compatible with follow-focus systems.

Optical Design

Weighing a balanced 1120g, the lens offers a compact, lightweight build optimized for use with gimbals and stabilization rigs thanks to its internal focusing design. It incorporates three extra-low dispersion and four aspherical elements to minimize chromatic aberrations and enhance image sharpness. Nikon’s advanced Meso Amorphous Coat effectively reduces ghosting and flare from light entering at any angle. With a constant f/4 aperture, the lens supports shallow depth-of-field control and subject separation, while close-focusing capabilities of 34cm at the wide end and 57cm at telephoto enable compelling close-up shots with Nikon’s signature bokeh.

Build and Other Benefits

  • An included rectangular lens hood helps reduce unwanted light entering the lens and causing flare, while a filter adjustment window allows for convenient exchanges between circular polarizing and variable ND filters without needing to remove the hood.
  • A fluorine coating is applied to the front lens element, so dust, oil, and water are effectively repelled, contributing to its dust- and drip-resistant design.
  • L-Fn buttons, to which functions like zoom speed can be assigned, are positioned on the side and top of the lens for smooth operation even when shooting in a vertical orientation.
