Leica has advanced the glass to specially formulated SCHOTT HT glass, resulting in higher light transmission in the blue-violet light band, better color accuracy, and improved performance in low-light conditions. Both the High Durable Coating (HDC) and hydrophobic AquaDura coating on the outer lenses provide scratch and abrasion resistance, while causing water and oil to bead off for easier cleaning and enhanced clarity. The roof prisms include P40 phase correction and proprietary High Lux System (HLS) coatings which effectively reduce chromatic aberration, resulting in improved color representation and increased contrast.
The optical performance is complemented by meticulous construction details. To reduce fatigue during extended viewing sessions, the frame is crafted from a lightweight yet sturdy magnesium alloy, with a center hinge axle made of titanium. The tubes are filled with nitrogen for fogproof capability and are sealed, allowing the binoculars to be submerged up to 5m or 0.5 bar of pressure. Ergonomic thumb indents on the bottom, plus protective rubber armoring, ensure a comfortable and slip-resistant grip. The lubrication-free focus system enables swift and precise focusing, with PETP-Discs for seamless movement in a wide range of temperatures.
