The LEICA M-A (Typ 127) is a 35mm film rangefinder camera that focuses on the principles of photography and is characterized by its unobtrusiveness and simplicity. It requires no battery for its operation, and the only exposure control choice offered is that of shutter speeds of up to 1/1000 sec. The large and bright, 0.72x magnification, viewfinder is paired with a precise rangefinder mechanism to enable comparative manual focusing control with M-mount lenses, along with parallax-corrected compositional framing. The 35mm film rangefinder boasts a large, illuminated 0.72x-magnification viewfinder and requires no battery, allowing for a purely mechanical operation. Users can easily adjust shutter speed, aperture, and film speed with the ISO dial located on the back. The top shutter speed dial offers a wide range of options, including a bulb setting for long exposures, with flash sync available up to 1/50 sec. Additionally, the hot shoe has a center contact for compatibility with various flashes. This camera is compatible with all M-mount lenses, ranging from 16mm to 135mm in focal length, and the image field frame lines automatically adjust to the mounted lens, providing a parallax-corrected reference for precise image composition. Alternatively, users can manually select image field lines to preview compositions with different focal length lenses.
